information for parents

If you are a parent looking to get your child involved in the AYS orchestra, here are some key facts you need to know:

  • As at August 2019, the Symphony is particularly interested in applications from individuals who play the following instruments: bassoon, french horn, trombone, double bass, oboe, viola and percussion. There are places on the Tour to Colorado for players who play any of these instruments.
  • The Symphony orchestra accepts musicians who play at Grade 5 level and above, aged between 12 and 22.
  • The Sinfonietta orchestra accepts musicians who play at Grade 3 level and above, aged between 9 and 13.
  • We accept applications all year round.
  • We practice on Tuesday evenings at Selwyn Village Theatre, Point Chevalier, Auckland.
  • There is an annual membership fee for both the Symphony and the Sinfonietta. Special rates are available for families with more than one child in the AYS.

If you are interested in signing a budding musician up to audition for the AYS, please contact us. Alternatively download one here which you can print out and mail to us.

The Orchestra is continually seeking help from parents to assist with the running of the organisation.  If you can help please let one of the committee know and we would welcome your input.

If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.

Subs remain our main source of income so your prompt payment would be appreciated.

We are working on the calendar for the remainder of 2019 and 2020, and it is looking like a busy time, once finalised it will be published here.  Keep your eyes out.
